Middleton Railway - Palvan | image gallery - MRT Palvan |
The Middleton Railway, Leeds have a PalVan, used mainly by their track workers as an equipment store. Unfortunately, in the early hours of 15th July 2018, the neighbouring builder's merchant suffered a major arson attack. The radient heat, despite the efforts of the fire brigade, caused several serious problems. These were to both buildings and vehicles plus, we were advised to cancel the special event on the Sunday. By far the worst damage was to the palvan and the tools inside. On the advice of the loss adjuster we were contacted and have agreed to carry out the rebuild of the bodywork, the running gear was unaffected. | awaiting image |

The Knotty Coach Trust have been entrusted with the care, and restoration of NSR228. Initially, we restored two doors and built "before and after" units for fundraising displays. In February 2017 NSR228 was transported to our workshops in Haltwhistle. The first task was to assess the current state of the coach, write a detailed condition report, and develop a restoration proposal, with at least outline costings. These reports have been submitted and a fundraising strategy is under development.

Isle of Man Steam Railway - F62 | image gallery - F62 |
We have been commissioned to restore this carriage which has an interesting history. It consists of two of the early four-wheeler coach bodies (A1 and B1, from 1873) mounted on a bogie underframe (1926) and was withdrawn from service in 1987. Some initial work had been done in Douglas, where it was inspected during September 2017, before the carriage finally arrived in Haltwhistle in July 2018. | awaiting imgae |
North Eastern Railway 70 |
|
This "family saloon" was built about 1870 for the NER. In a relatively short career, it would have been hired out by a family or group (reserved for their exclusive use). A typical journey might have been to Scotland for the shooting season. Eventually, it was grounded near Chester-le Street, and became a glorified garden shed. It was rescued in the 1970's and we have rebuilt the structural parts of the bodywork. The image (similar to the image on VCT database) shows the sheeted body before arriving in Haltwhistle. We have now completed the external repanelling and rebuilt the doors. Further work, mainly on the interior is planned during 2015, when funding allows.
Latil TAR | Image Gallery - Latil TAR |
We have been commissioned to replicate the timber cab and back for this 1914 Latil TAR (Tracteur d'Artillerie Roulante). Currently "on hold" pending materials and design information. The first of these 4Wheel Drive vehicles were built in 1913 for the French army to tow heavy guns in the field; they were developed in various ways to cope with deeper mud as the first world war continued. Some military variants survived until the second world war, but most were built for forestry etc, in 1955 Latil merged with Somua and Renault to form Saviem. |

Miller Fifer |
|
Long term restoration of a classic Fife built motor sailing craft. The hull is basically sound, however there has been considerable rebuilding of the topsides; including a new cabin roof, and extensive refurbishment of the largely mahogany interior. The wheelhouse has been redesigned to accommodate modern electronic equipment. Although this boat was built in the mid 1960s to a traditional design, the current refit gives the impression of being an older vessel, and a much loved one. Taking advantage of a convenient window of calm weather, "EMOYENI" was relaunched into the harbour at Whitehaven Marina, just in time for the Winter Solstice on 21st December 2015. .
Classic Ski Boat |
|
Classic wooden hulled ski boat, powered by an inboard Volvo Penta (which also needs some TLC !! ). This 15 foot ski boat is thought to date from about the early 1960s, and was built by Anchorage at Ferry Nab, Windermere. Bought as a failed (read - barely started) project, the new owner expects that the restoration will be carried out to our usual high standards (work has been held back to await further information and funding). The Volvo Penta engine has been substantially rebuilt (2012/3) and the gearbox examined. The hull has received only minor attention to date. |
